Know Your Blazer: Andrew "Drew" Tuazama
Updated: Feb 9, 2022
What’s up Blazer fans! Let’s take a quick look at our newest recruit on the south side…Andrew “Drew” Tuazama.
Hometown: Raleigh, NC
High School: Knightdale HS
High School: Drew spent the 2018 season at Jireh Prep Academy in Matthews, North Carolina where he recorded 72 tackles and 12 sacks. He became 247Sports No. 3 prep-school prospect and the No. 1 strongside defensive end prospect as well as the No.1 North Carolina strongside DE.
Before Prep school he attended Knightdale High School. In 2017 he was the No. 44 tight end and the No. 30 overall prospect from North Carolina, according to 247Sports. He caught 33 passes for 449 yards (13.6 avg.) and three touchdowns in three seasons for Knightdale. He also posted 46 tackles and six sacks on defense.
Oh, did I mention he was also a terrific basketball player. Some even thought he could play at an ACC level on the court.
College Offers: Out of high school he garnered attention and offers from the likes of Tennessee, Rutgers, Ole Miss, Purdue, Miami, Florida State, Maryland, and East Carolina who were looking to add the big man as a TE. After he went to prep school and switched over to the defensive side of the ball exclusively, Syracuse came calling and ultimately landed the 3-star DE.
Syracuse Career: 2019 was a redshirt season for Drew. He made his first college appearance against Holy Cross that year recording 2 tackles in that game before ultimately being ejected for targeting. He had an unblocked shot at the QB and he took it! It was a hell of a hit, just a little to high and to much helmet to helmet.
2020: His freshmen year at Syracuse saw him play in 6 games as a reserve defensive lineman. He recorded 7 tackles, 2 of which were tackles for loss. He also recorded a blocked punt against Clemson.
East Mississippi Community College: The 2021 season saw Drew transfer out of Syracuse and enroll in EMCC. During his time at EMCC he recorded 32 tackles (3.2 a game) in 6 games. He also had a fumble recovery for a TD.
His recruitment leading into this signing period saw him pick up offers from South Alabama, Ole Miss, FAU, Marshall, Buffalo, WKU, Central Arkansas, UTSA, EKU, Austin Peay, and of course the Blazers.
Glad to have Drew on the southside as we were searching for some defensive linemen during this signing period. Make sure to check back regularly as I will break down the recruits that committed during the early signing period also.
